Operating Room Assistant

0-Performing under the direction of the RN/LPN and as a member of the unit-based patient care team, the OR Assistant (ORA) performs duties of direct and indirect patient care. As delegated, the direct patient care tasks includes but are not limited to positioning patient for surgery with guidance from circulating RN or surgeon, holding patient for surgical prep, transporting specimens, cleaning OR procedure rooms and equipment.

Indirect patient care activities include, but are not limited to, transport, restocking and/or obtaining patient care supplies. In addition, the ORA is responsible for responding in a timely manner to the needs of patients and family members and taking a proactive role in the efficient operation of the unit. They function within policies, procedures and guidelines of SMH in accordance with the CDC and OSHA standards, and any other applicable regulatory or accreditation agency.
