Ortho Specialty Technician

Job Requirements Reviews daily operating room schedule to ensure adequate coverage and resources to meet orthopedic equipment needs. Reprocesses power equipment to include decontamination, inspection, testing, packaging and sterilization according to manufacturer’s IFUs. Performs annual competency validation for the CS staff who are assigned power equipment reprocessing tasks and supports staff education for power equipment reprocessing.

Coordinates and manages repairs and loaners with Biomedical Engineering; ensures repairs are documented and expedited; following up and notifying the appropriate clinical practitioners in reference to power equipment availability. Follows up with clinical staff to keep them abreast of any handling issues that affect quality. Is competent on the operation of all production equipment and technology used for reprocessing medical devices.

This includes washers, sterilizers, high-level disinfectors, incubators and instrument tracking system. May performs technician duties as required during staffing shortages, increased work load and/or to expedite priority assignments. May assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of shift Supervisor and/or manager.

Assists in the development of departmental procedures and policies in reference to endoscope reprocessing. Maintains appropriate certifications and keeps abreast of industry changes to include regulatory and best practices. Conducts a minimum of two annual in-services in reference to practice updates.

Work Experience High School diploma or equivalent required. Three (3) years’ experience in Central Service required. Must have CS technician certification (CRCST) from IAHCSMM or CBSPD.

In addition, must also be certified as an instrumentation Specialist (CIS) or obtain within six months from date of hire or transfer into the position. Must be proficient in using instrument tracking software. Must have knowledge of medical terminology, supplies and a basic knowledge of computers and computer office software programs.

Great customer service and critical thinking skills are required for interaction with OR/CS staff and customers to resolve issues.
