The patient advocate is responsible for assisting the Bariatric patient with navigating through the process of their weight loss journey.
The patient advocate is responsible for assisting the Bariatric patient with navigating through the process of their weight loss journey. Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms.
Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect. Managing all new patient inquiries (phone, email, seminar, web, etc into the Bariatric Program.
Develops comprehensive understanding of all bariatric procedures, processes and insurance requirements. Educates patient concerning process, surgeries, seminars, support and coverage of benefits. Pro-actively works directly with patients to ensure that all patient information is documented appropriately and obtains insurance information to assist with checking benefits.
Collects and evaluates patient documentation on prospective patients. Conducts interviews with patients to identify potential coverage or benefits for which they may be eligible. Refers all non eligible self-pay patients to appropriate personnel or financial companies.
Secures patient cooperation and participation in the eligibility process and, acting as their authorized representative, assists in gathering, completing and submitting a timely file for surgeon review. Maintains complete and accurate documentation of all activity preformed, as well as maintains copies of all correspondence and entire patient process in the database. Maintains professionalism in all verbal and written communication and all interaction with patients, family members, hospitals, insurance companies, physicians, and co-workers.
Maintains confidentiality in regards to patient information is mandatory. Attends seminars as scheduled; responsible for the set-up; opening presentation; closing; follow-up. Performs other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma Required Prior work experience in the healthcare field or business office is preferred. Working familiarity with Insurance companies, Microsoft computer software, or demonstrated ability to learn within a short period of time. Join our team to BE UC Health.
