✓Phlebotomy certification required.
Education
✓Acquired through high school plus accredited course through a licensed phlebotomy educational program, hospital, or a community college. Phlebotomy certification required.
Qualifications
✓Demonstrated customer service and communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with all levels, allay fears of patients and to perform other activities which require courtesy and tact.
✓Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
✓Knowledge of blood collection equipment, anticoagulants used, special precautions and interferences and ability to implement principles of aseptic techniques.
✓Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, infection control, specimen processing, medical terminology, anatomic terminology, universal precautions, first aid and safety.
✓Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to perform venipuncture techniques and capillary puncture on adults, children and infants and visual acuity to distinguish chromatic colors.
Previous phlebotomy experience with demonstrated venipuncture proficiency and ability to function independently preferred.
