Paramedic

The paramedic assists practitioners in the daily functions in the Urgent Care Departments. The paramedic practices under the supervision, guidance, and instruction of an advanced nurse practitioner who is immediately available and physically present. They perform tasks and procedures within the scope of practice outlined in this job description and in line with Colorado Revised Statute 25-35-103.

Additionally, this position administers certain classes of emergency medications in accordance with the Rules and Regulations in the same statute. The paramedic may only provide functions identified in this

. Medical direction is provided by the Nurse Practitioner Liaison and Urgent Care Medical Director. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education or Formal Training High School graduate or equivalent; higher degree or diploma preferred Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.) Current certification in the State of Colorado as a Paramedic NREMT BLS ACLS Provider Knowledge, Skill and Ability Ability to effectively communicate to patients, family, and co-workers Basic knowledge of frequently used medical terminologies Knowledge of policies and procedures related to Urgent Care Experience One year of experience as an EMT-P preferred MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED Standard medical/hospital equipment including sphygmomanometer, wheelchairs, stretchers, positioning aids, patient monitors, other laboratory instruments, and other office equipment including computer, intercom, telephone, copy machine and fax machine.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES Physical working environment may include, but not be limited to, any of the following hazards: chemical, electronic, mechanical, biowaste, explosive, radiation, etc. Environmental conditions may include, but not be limited to, variations in temperature, noise, odors, etc. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to constantly stand and walk.

The employee frequently is required to stoop, crouch and twist. The employee is occasionally required to kneel, squat and sit. The employee must be able to consistently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 10 pounds, frequently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally support, push, pull and/or transfer up to 50 pounds (for example, moving a patient from a wheelchair to a bed.) Functional physical demands include manual dexterity, fine motor skills and reaching.
