This position assists pathologists by performing preliminary assessment and preparation of surgical pathology specimens. Daily work involves rotations through a new affiliated hospital’s gross room and frozen room, including implementation of specimen preparation and visualization for remote frozen section diagnosis. Other responsibilities for the position include grossing of simple and complex specimens, gross specimen photography, and teaching of resident physicians and medical students.
1. Performs and assists pathologists in the accessioning, dissection, description, and histologic sampling of a full range of anatomical specimens 2. Performs frozen sections and other intra-operative consultations, within established protocol and procedural parameters. 3.
Participates in the accessioning and labeling of specimens, specimen storage and disposal, and the maintenance of reagents and equipment. 4. Obtain biological specimens for analysis and perform special techniques as directed by the pathologist. Other Information Other information: Education
• Bachelor’s degree and completion of Pathology Assistant program OR Master’s degree from an accredited Pathology Assistant program. Licensure/Certification
• No licensure or certification required. Professional Experience
