Job Requirements PCT at Kaufman Infusion Center (located on the Upper Chesapeake Medical Campus in Bel Air, MD) Hours: 7:45am-4:15pm, Monday-Friday This role provides direct care to cancer patients in the outpatient setting. The primary duties include blood draws and lab collection, peripheral IV placement, central line/port access, and rooming activities. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and in accordance with the Nursing Care Plan performs delegated competency validated patient care functions and applies technical skills of a limited uncomplicated nature.
Fulfillment of the job duties requires the employee to have access to medication storage areas and to transport medications to/ from medication storage and delivery areas. Completes rooming tasks as part of the clinical team Identifies, records, and reports overt findings to the Registered Nurse concerning the physical and mental condition of a patient. Assists nurses in assembling equipment and in performing various treatments and tests. Administers and changes routine dressings to stage one and two wounds, surgical incisions, and peripheral IV sites after assessment by a Registered Nurse.
Gathers equipment required to, and initiates placement IV for the patient as directed by the registered nurse. Performs venipuncture for drawing blood samples and established IV access. Cleans, sterilizes, and appropriately cares for equipment and instruments in accordance with operational procedure.
Performs related and delegated tasks when necessary such as admission and/or discharge assistance, setting up special equipment, taking and relaying messages, procuring equipment, and running errands. Work Experience Candidates must hold a valid Maryland state CNA or GNA certification, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and have current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. At least one year of patient care experience is preferred, with phlebotomy experience required and IV placement experience preferred.
Strong communication skills, teamwork, the ability to prioritize and multitask in stressful situations, and proficiency with computer systems are essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate competency in obtaining accurate blood glucose results, performing delegated nursing tasks with cultural sensitivity, and adhering to aseptic techniques.
