Patient Scheduler, Pre-Access Services

• Coordinates scheduling of procedures, according to policy and procedures, to meet the needs of patient, physician, and hospital. Communicates with surgeon’s office, anesthesia and inventory department in operating room. POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS­ :
• High School Diploma/GED required
• Medical terminology preferred
• Customer service skills and computer skills are required. JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE­ :
• High degree of competency/experience in general.
• Able to respond effectively to patient thru verbal communication.
• Requires good communication and organizational skills.
• Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
• Requires working with frequent interruptions.

• Working knowledge of personal computer and software applications used in the job will be required.
• Must have one year of clerical/office related work experience in a medical or health care environment.
• Computer or word processing proficiency is required.
• Strong customer service skills are a must.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Ability to communicate in both Spanish and English is strongly preferred.

• POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:
• Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.
• Considers priorities and special needs when scheduling preoperative appointments and surgical procedures with all areas of the Hospital.
• Schedules surgeries and procedures according to policies, nursing, anesthesia staff availability, patient needs, and physician’s block time.
• Maintains schedule according to procedure and physician’s time and staffing requirements.
• Reconciles with doctors office
• Coordinates schedule assessing time and equipment availability, identifies conflicts and adjusts schedule as needed.
• Accurately prepares the schedule for timely distribution.
• Facilitates daily completion of the facility schedule.
• Follows procedure for notification of changes in the schedule (e.g. cancellation).
• Maintains and protects each patient’s right to confidentiality.
• Answers telephone and intercom courteously and in a quiet, pleasant voice.
• Assumes clerical duties and responsibilities as necessary.
• Calls patients with time of arrival.
• Provides patients with general instructions.
• Coordinates with Nurses for any add ons

Working Conditions : The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids).
