Incumbents perform basic medical, technical and administrative support services for assigned area. Incumbents process routine endoscopes, non-disposable endoscopic equipment, and may provide standby technical assistance for routine endoscopic procedures. May assist the front office operations by answering incoming phone calls, maintaining records, preparing reports and updating patient files.

Maintains and assists with the operation of endoscope towers and image recording systems to ensure proper documentation of procedures , assists in troubleshooting routine GI endoscopy equipment quickly and efficiently, maintains properly functioning equipment and communicates problems/issues to supervisor, operates equipment for processing and high level disinfection equipment including performing daily quality control and maintains accurate documentation, performs processing and high level disinfection of routine upper and lower endoscopes and high level disinfection of non-disposable equipment 20% Intervenes appropriately and/or provides appropriate assistance in emergency situations, transports and positions patients as needed 10% Effectively collects or assists with specimen collection, following infection control procedures, prepares patient medical records for clinic visits, documents patient observations/care appropriately in the computer, on the flow sheets, or wherever appropriate, utilizes the computer to transcribe orders or request printouts, enters information in patient charts and updates charts as necessary 25% Assists nurses in setting up and cleaning of procedure rooms, coordinates the proper equipment set up to ensure smooth functioning of procedure room. 20% Accurately performs requested diagnostic tests in the clinical area, follows department guidelines in preparing patients for clinic visits, takes and records vital signs including temperature, pulse, weight, respiratory rate and blood pressure, documenting appropriately, follows all clinic policies and procedures related to universal precautions and infection control, provides accurate discharge orders to patients in accordance with all policies and regulations , makes appropriate referrals to resolve patient issues effectively. 25% Total Effort: 100% Required

Understanding of medical terminology Medical Assistant Diploma or Certificate of Competency / Recognition in Medical Assisting Clinical / Back Office or minimum 3 years experience working as a GI/Endoscopy Technician in a hospital setting Excellent customer service skills Current BLS certification Ability to work well in a constantly changing environment Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English Ability to communicate effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds
