The Pharmacy Delivery Driver is responsible for the timely, safe, and professional delivery of prescription medications and healthcare products to patients served by Southwell Pharmacy. This position operates under the supervision of the Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) and the Ambulatory Director of Pharmacy Services, serving as a key connection between the pharmacy and the surrounding community. The Primary duties include organizing, transporting, and delivering medications while ensuring compliance with all relevant pharmacy regulations, including HIPAA.
They must maintain a high standard of customer service, demonstrating professionalism and care in every patient interaction. This role demands attention to detail, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently. It involves applying knowledge of pharmacy operations, typically gained through current or recent experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
A solid understanding of both prescription and over-the-counter medications is integral to performing the job effectively. A thorough understanding of prescription and over-the-counter products is also necessary. They are expected to represent Southwell Pharmacy with integrity and professionalism, supporting the broader goal of safe, reliable, and compassionate healthcare delivery to the community.
* Deliver prescription medications, medical supplies, and other pharmacy products to patients following proper handling and safety procedures. * Verify the identity of each recipient and cross-check delivery details to ensure prescription medications are delivered accurately to the correct patient, following all protocols for patient safety, privacy, and legal compliance. * Handle temperature-sensitive medications according to storage and transportation requirements (e.g., cold chain compliance). * Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA and pharmacy regulations. * Communicate clearly and professionally with pharmacy staff and customers regarding delivery schedules and any issues. * Provide courteous, professional service during each delivery and act as a representative of Southwell Pharmacy to ensure a positive customer experience. * Manage delivery routes efficiently, using GPS or routing software, while accommodating urgent or same-day delivery needs as required. * Escalate any patient concerns, delivery barriers, or safety risks to the supervising pharmacist or manager immediately * Assist in the pharmacy (inpatient or retail) during slower delivery periods. * Maintains courier vehicle both in regards to maintenance needs and cleanliness. * Manages the fuel card and submits receipts for fuel and maintenance in a timely manner. * Obeys all traffic laws while using company vehicle. * Promptly reports any accidents, incidents or losses as per Southwell policies and procedures. * Other duties as assigned. * Keeps abreast of pertinent federal, and state regulations and laws and Tift Regional Health System, Inc.
(“TRHS”) policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified. * Understands and adheres to: TRHS’ compliance standards as they appear in TRHS’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy; and HIPAA and TRHS policies regarding privacy and security of protected health information. * Demonstrates the ability to perform tasks that meet the age-specific requirements of the persons, patients, vendors, and staff that the employee is charged to interact with as required by the position. * Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs. * Attends all mandatory education programs. * Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes. * Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements. * Cross-trains in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in the department. * Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects. * Manages resources effectively. * Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment and removes malfunctioning equipment out of service with timely reporting to the appropriate personnel. * Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.
