The primary function of the Phlebotomist is to work with the MLS/MT in various areas of the Laboratory, registering patients, collecting samples, and assessing the acceptability of samples for testing. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES: Follows laboratory policies and procedures for specimen collection, handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results. Adhere to the lab’s QC policies, document all QC activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
Follow the lab’s established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the lab’s defined acceptable levels of performance. Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problem or immediately notify the lab manager/chief technologist. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the lab’s established performance specifications.
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: Must have a phlebotomy license from the state of Louisiana. At least one (2-3) years medical laboratory experience in a hospital or clinic preferred. Must have at least 2-3 years phlebotomy experience.
