A typical day for a Phlebotomist may include: Collecting blood and other laboratory specimens from patient populations using established venipuncture and capillary collection protocols. Accurately identifying, labeling, processing, and preparing specimens for laboratory testing at the point of collection while maintaining specimen integrity.
Ensuring all specimens are handled and transported to the laboratory under proper environmental conditions, according to standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements. Providing compassionate, professional patient interactions while monitoring patients closely for adverse reactions during and after collection. Verifying patient identification using approved identification methods and following established procedures to promote patient safety and accurate testing.
Maintaining accurate documentation of collection details within laboratory systems and assisting with specimen accessioning duties, including the operation and maintenance of automated equipment. Collaborating closely with nurses, physicians, laboratory staff, and other members of the healthcare team to support efficient patient care. Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment by keeping collection equipment well-stocked and following infection prevention practices, safety guidelines, and organizational policies.

To be considered for this Phlebotomist opportunity you must: Be passionate about delivering safe, accurate, and compassionate specimen collection services that support high-quality patient care while adhering to RWJBH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior. Have completed a phlebotomy training program or a medical laboratory technology program with phlebotomy training with certification preferred. 0 to 2 years of experience performing blood or specimen collection procedures.
