The Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider Physician Assistant plays a vital role within the critical care team, The primary responsibility is to manage high-acuity adult patients in a multidisciplinary critical care setting, The ICU team provides comprehensive critical care in collaboration with various consulting specialists, The APP works closely with critical care intensivists, ICU hospitalists, residents, fellows, and other APPs to provide direct patient care in the ICU, APP responsibilities include performing physical exams, collecting and documenting data, performing approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies and consultations, and prescribing appropriate interventions and medications, Additionally, the APP may manage ICU consults in collaboration with attending physicians, The APP's role in critical care is to oversee and ensure that patients receive best-practice care,
Obtains and records patient history, Performs physical and medical screening examinations, Completes diagnostic and therapeutic studies, Orders diagnostic laboratory tests, radiological studies or other therapies as appropriate, Establishes diagnostic decision-making and initiates a treatment plan, which may include ordering medications, additional therapeutic modalities, etc, Coordinates patient care with other members of the health care team, Initiates consultation requests to other health professionals to provide more comprehensive patient management, Instructs and counsels patients regarding mental and physical health, referring patients to appropriate specialists/resources, Completes charting in a thorough and timely manner, Adequately manages patient flow in the ICU, Performs procedures as allowed by state law and under the direction of the supervising or collaborating physician, Works within legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards, Actively participates in department staff meetings and risk management education, Completes required courses, i, e, HIPAA, EMTALA and other CME/CEU requirements, Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to academic lectures and / or quality improvement projects, Job
