The Plant Operations Specialist performs skilled maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of facility systems and equipment to support safe and continuous healthcare operations. This position provides specialized expertise in one or more technical trades while maintaining building systems, emergency equipment, and preventive maintenance programs in accordance with applicable codes and regulatory requirements.
The Plant Operations Specialist also supports departmental operations through on-call coverage, documentation, inventory coordination, system monitoring, and collaboration with other skilled trades. DUTIES: Performs general and advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of facility systems and equipment to maintain safe, reliable, and continuous operations. Demonstrates competency in one or more specialty trades, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, medical gas, power plant operations, suppression systems, fire alarm systems, locksmith services, or pneumatic tube systems.
Performs preventive maintenance and maintains accurate records of inspections, repairs, maintenance activities, and other documentation required for regulatory and code compliance. Monitors building management systems, emergency backup systems, and other critical facility equipment to verify proper operation and readiness. Installs, replaces, and upgrades facility equipment and system components as needed to support operational requirements, facility growth, and code compliance.
Identifies and requests replacement parts, equipment, supplies, and stock necessary to maintain facility systems and operational readiness. Participates in on-call and recall responsibilities to provide technical support and respond to facility or equipment issues during off-hours and emergency situations. Collaborates with other Plant Operations trades to troubleshoot and complete repairs while following applicable safety requirements, codes, regulations, and standards, including NFPA, NEC, ASHRAE, and applicable healthcare accreditation requirements.
