Performs a variety of both routine and complex clinical laboratory tests in accordance with established standards and procedures with minimal supervision. Level of supervision is determined by skill level and experience. Has a working knowledge of equipment, processing of specimens, test results and time constraints of test, in their assigned area.
If trained as generalists may be assigned to any area or combination of areas. Has a thorough understanding of medical technology as it is related to their specific job category. This role is intended for Clinical Laboratory Scientists/Medical Technologist with a minimum of 2 years of experience and verified/recognized certification.
Essential Finctions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform all functions. Has a knowledge of various testing procedures and equipment, proper set up and maintenance of equipment, normal test values or results, and familiarity with quality control standards and calibration. Completes general testing in area of assignment with minimal supervision.
Performs scheduled maintenance on and troubleshooting of equipment in assigned area(s) as required. Performs and monitors quality control of equipment. Correctly utilizes the Laboratory Information System to report patient test results to a duly authorized person via telephone, hospital information system, or FAX machine.
Calls and documents with patient results all panic values to a responsible party. Keeps immediate supervisor informed at all times so he/she can assist with technical concerns as they arise. Actively participates in the Laboratory Performance Improvement program.
Trains peers or subordinate lab employees. May act as charge technologist in the absence of the Technical Specialist or Lead Technologist. Staff are required to complete annual competency review and must ensure compliance with Hospital Policy, Laboratory Policy and Procedure, Health, Safety & Environment regulations, and all applicable privacy and confidentiality laws/practices.
Work requires formal educational background in biology, chemistry, hematology, immunohematology and microbiology normally acquired through a four-year post-secondary school program in clinical laboratory technology. Work
This role is intended for Clinical Laboratory Scientists/Medical Technologist with a minimum of 2 years of experience and verified/recognized certification. Completion of clinical rotation during final year of bachelor’s degree program or (one year) equivalent clinical lab experience or course work specific to the discipline. For this level, the employee must demonstrate certification accepted by the Department of Pathology, or MS degree plus 2 years relevant clinical laboratory experience in an approved CLIA laboratory.
Required Licensure, Certification, On-going Training: Certification through ASCP or AMT as an MT, CLS, or MLS is required
