You’ll need
Licensure
✓Board certification or board eligibility in Psychiatry.
✓Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of New Jersey, or eligibility for New Jersey licensure.
Education
✓Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
✓Completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency program.
Qualifications
✓Demonstrated expertise in the assessment and treatment of severe mental illness, including psychotic disorders, mood disorders, substance use disorders, and psychiatric emergencies.
✓Experience managing patients requiring involuntary commitment, court-ordered treatment, and emergency psychiatric interventions.
✓Proficiency in risk assessment, including evaluation of suicide risk, violence risk, and grave disability.

✓Leadership and Administrative Experience
✓Experience leading multidisciplinary treatment teams, advanced practice providers, nurses, social workers, therapists, and support staff.
✓Knowledge of psychiatric unit operations, quality improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance, and performance management.
✓Ability to develop and implement evidence-based clinical protocols and standards of care.
✓Experience with accreditation and regulatory requirements, including standards established by state agencies, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and accreditation organizations.
✓Legal and Regulatory Knowledge
✓Comprehensive understanding of state and federal laws governing involuntary psychiatric treatment, patient rights, confidentiality, informed consent, and emergency interventions.
✓Experience providing clinical testimony and participating in commitment hearings, as applicable.
✓Ability to ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards while maintaining patient and staff safety.
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience treating patients in an inpatient psychiatric setting, with preference for experience in acute and involuntary psychiatric care. preferred
Fellowship training in emergency psychiatry, or related subspecialty. preferred
Prior experience serving as a Unit Chief, or attending psychiatrist in an involuntary psychiatric setting. preferred
Experience with quality improvement, utilization management, and psychiatric program development. preferred
