The Public Safety Dispatcher displays analytical and organizational skills necessary to receive, evaluate, and dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance. Utilizes effective communication through verbal and typing skills to maintain efficient operations and respond to police and security situations. Exhibits technological competency to utilize complex telecommunications, alarms, and computer systems.

Emergency and Non-Emergency DispatchAnswer, evaluate, prioritize, and dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance to Police and Public Safety OfficersCommunications MonitoringMonitor and process calls from large number of incoming telephone lines, intercom lines, emergency call boxes and alarmsSecurity Systems Monitoring and Emergency ResponseMonitor complex system of alarms, computerized access control, and CCTV Must remain calm and focused during life and death incidents to ensure Police, Security, and Medical response is appropriate and completePublic Safety SupportMay perform Public Safety Officer duties when assignedPerforms other related duties as requiredMinimum Required
Experience - Two (2) years of customer service/telecommunications, military, law enforcement or security experiencePreferred
Education - A high school diploma or equivalent. Additional training beyond high schoolCertification - APCO, IAHSS or related certificationPhysical
Medium Max 25 lbs.: Up to 25 lbs., 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); lifting 25 lbs. max; carrying of objects up to 25 lbs.; occasional to frequent standing and walking; occasional sitting; close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing). Environmental exposures include but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure, bio-hazardous waste, chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting, patient care/handling injuries, radiation, shift work, and travel may be required.
