Plans, directs, evaluates, and provides nutritional care to patients, and oversees work of Dietician (Graduate) and Dietetic Assistant. ResponsibilitiesScreens patients to identify level of nutritional risks. Interviews patients as part of screening to obtain information regarding food habits, preferences and any weight loss or swallowing problemsPerforms comprehensive nutritional assessment for patients at high nutrition risk.
Reviews medical records to obtain relevant data, interviews patients to obtain nutrition related history, identifies nutrition problems and nutrient and energy requirementsDevelops goals for nutrition intervention and recommends diet prescription or feeding modality to physicians as appropriateDocuments nutritional assessment and plan of care in patient medical recordContinuously evaluates and monitors the effectiveness and outcomes of medical nutrition therapyConfers and coordinates nutrition care with other health team members (physicians, nurse, pharmacist, social services, etc.) Implements the nutrition care plan for patients and communicates this plan to patient, health team members and other appropriate personnelProvides nutrition education to patients on therapeutic diets and drug/nutrient interaction as appropriate.
Conducts nutrition education classes with groups of patients and their familiesDirects dietetic assistants and mentors nutrition interns/studentsMaintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standardsAs assigned, this role will handle hazardous materials management which may include but is not limited to, characterizing wastes, labeling containers, adding waste to containers, maintaining containers in satellite or central accumulation areas, recordkeeping and reporting, reviewing or completing hazardous waste manifests, or oversight of any of the aforementioned activities QualificationsEducation:Bachelor's Degree in Food and Nutrition or related field.
Registered Dietician and membership in the American Dietetic AssociationAs assigned, this role requires the completion of annual hazardous materials training as required by OSHA, DOT, DEC and all agencies that have jurisdiction
1 year of experience in health care preferred
Knowledge of basic and therapeutic nutrition, food nutrition values, and regional ethnic and religious food preferencesSpeaks, reads, and writes English to the extent required by the position
