The Outpatient Radiology Nurse provides safe, efficient, and compassionate nursing care to patients undergoing outpatient diagnostic and interventional imaging procedures. The nurse supports patient flow and serves as a clinical resource for IV access, hydration therapy, contrast safety, and emergency response. Primary Responsibilities Perform IV insertion and port access for outpatient imaging procedures.
Administer and monitor IV hydration as ordered in preparation for or following imaging studies. Assess, recognize, and manage contrast reactions , following established departmental protocols and emergency procedures. Initiate appropriate emergency response , including escalation to the medical team and activation of 911 when indicated.
Maintain and manage the department’s allergy/contrast allergy protocol list , ensuring accurate documentation and communication of patient allergies and required precautions. Monitor patients before, during, and after imaging procedures and identify changes in condition requiring nursing intervention. Collaborate with radiologists, technologists, providers, and other members of the healthcare team to promote safe and efficient patient care.
Provide patient education regarding IV procedures, hydration, contrast administration, and post-procedure instructions. Maintain compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and patient safety requirements. Qualifications Current New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license .
BLS certification required; ACLS preferred/required based on departmental standards. Previous radiology, outpatient, emergency, or procedural nursing experience preferred. Strong assessment, IV access, communication, and emergency response skills.
