The Women’s Health Service Line at UCSF Medical Center is, engaged in clinical, research, and training activities at the Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Mission Bay, as well as satellite locations throughout the Bay Area, with an annual operating budget of $175 million. “Leading the way in women’s health.” The Mission Bay Birth Center includes 9 LDRP rooms, 24 Post Partum rooms, 12 Antepartum rooms and 9 triage bays. This position reports directly to the Unit Director of the Birth Center, under Women’s Health and Adult Services. Job Summary Provides lactation assistance to women and infants within the Benioff Children’s Hospital, including but not limited to the Birth Center, who are attempting to establish or maintain breast feeding practices.
Works to develop, implement and evaluate education around breast feeding for patients, families, and staff. Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision.
Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team. Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act.

A minimum of 2 years of recent full-time clinical RN labor and delivery experience in an inpatient setting including high-risk antepartum, labor and delivery, operating room, postpartum and well baby. Carry out established nursing procedures, and perform nursing care for patients with complex needs. The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
BSN The ideal candidate will have 2 or more years of recent nursing experience including high-risk antepartum, labor and delivery, operating room, postpartum, and well baby. Prior MedSurg, TCU, ICU, step down experience preferred.
