US:NV:Carson City Operating Room Full Time Variable Shift Summary Collaborates with surgeon and other health care professionals for an optimal surgical outcome. Under the direction of the department manager and under supervision of a charge nurse, responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care. Proficiency in administering the fundamentals of the nursing process, contributes to the nursing assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation.
Develops and participates in the care plan of the patient. Qualifications Required: State of Nevada licensure as Registered Nurse or Interim Permit Two (2) years’ experience acute care RN American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of hire. One (1) year of operating room experience Preferred: Credentialed as Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) Advanced Degree in Nursing of Bachelors of Science or higher Cardiovascular experience
Proficient in all essential functions of the “Surgical Services RN”: Performs assessment and evaluation of the patient by assessing vital signs, notes changes, and pursues more specific investigation as needed. Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and shows a fundamental understanding of its implications by reporting information to the physician and others caring for the patient, and by incorporating information in the nursing care plan.
Adheres to performing/receiving bedside handover as per organizational standards. Uses assessment information to develop a care plan that communicates enough information for incoming personnel to adequately care for the patient. Includes the patient and his or her family in planning care, establishing priorities, and setting goals.
Documents an individualized care plan based upon the changing needs of the patient and incorporates each patients’ chronic and acute conditions. Consistently follows established standards, policies and procedures in providing nursing care. Accepts accountability for clinical care of assigned patients, including supervision of non-professional personnel.
Identifies patient teaching needs and provides elementary instructions for the patient and his or her family. Notes discharge planning elements and incorporates these in care plans. Responds appropriately in urgent and/or emergency situations.
Evaluates and notes the individual patient’s response to nursing care defined in the nursing care plan and medical records. Appropriately delegates and supervises care scheduled by non-professional personnel, providing instruction as needed. The RN will be expected to make evidence-based practice recommendations for improvement of the delivery of patient care via the patient care conference and unit conference.
May be required to function as Team Leader. Assists/Serves in the teaching/preceptor role for student nurses and other allied health professionals with clinical time on the Unit. Demonstrates proficiency as defined in the position/group/department checklists and unit specific competency standards.
Assist with planning and teaching of development programs for both CVOR team members and all Surgical Team Members. Ensure CVOR supplies and equipment are available and functioning properly. Work with corresponding departments as needed.
Maintains cleanliness and ordinary care of equipment kept and stored in the heart rooms. Demonstrate expert knowledge and skills to safely operate and troubleshoot specialty equipment used in CVOR. Works with physician to recommend new equipment, supplies and changes in procedures and environment to expedite patient care and service to team members.
Based on standards in the market. Assists with patient positioning, skin preparations, and draping. Overall maintenance of aseptic technique.
Demonstrates ability to perform effectively and respond appropriately in stressful and emergency situations. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively to the team when needed (i.e. codes, rapid infusions, etc.). Assist in safe deliverance of patient to CVU.
Completion of CVOR and all surgical department annual competency requirements. Communicates to health care professionals and family members appropriately and respectfully. Acts as a role model and treats all team members, including both CVOR and non-CVOR, with respect.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
