You’ll need
Licensure
✓Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
✓Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
Certifications
✓Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist Certification (or required within two years of hire).
✓Arizona - Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
✓American Red Cross Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) credential required within two years of employment at ADA certified sites.
✓Listing of current recognized ADA certified programs:
✓Positions that are not on campus may not require current Basic Life Support (BLS) competency as determined by the work area.
Certification preferred at non-ADA certified sites.
Education
✓Graduate of a baccalaureate Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited nursing program.
✓Effective March 1, 2017, incumbents who do not have their BSN are required to complete their degree by December 31, 2022.
✓BSN required.
Qualifications
✓If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of current LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is required.
✓Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
✓Experience working in a team environment.
✓Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.
✓Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, weekends and on-call.
✓Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
✓Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
One year RN experience within the last five years preferred.
One year diabetes education experience strongly preferred.

About the role
The Registered Nurse (RN) Diabetes Nurse Educator is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. Supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family.
