The Role As a Registered Nurse in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), you will provide compassionate, expert care for patients experiencing a wide range of complex cardiovascular conditions. This is a fast-paced, high-acuity environment where nurses play a vital role in patient outcomes while working closely with multidisciplinary teams across the health system.
Patients cared for in the CCU may include those experiencing heart failure exacerbations, coronary artery disease, STEMI, pulmonary hypertension, cardiogenic shock, heart blocks, post-cardiac arrest recovery, and other critical cardiac conditions. In this role, you will: Deliver comprehensive nursing care for critically ill cardiac patients. Monitor, assess, and respond to rapidly changing patient conditions.
Care for patients requiring advanced therapies and technologies, including Impella devices, intra-aortic balloon pumps, LVADs, ventilator support, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) . Collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and fellow nurses to coordinate care. Maintain accurate documentation and ensure evidence-based clinical practice.
Participate in a culture where team members actively support one another and prioritize outstanding patient care. With typical nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2 and, in some cases, 1:1 for the most critically ill patients , you'll have the opportunity to provide focused, high-quality care. A dedicated charge nurse without a patient assignment serves as an additional resource and support for the team.
