How you’ll contribute The Clinical Nurse Educator (CVICU) is responsible for assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating educational programs and competency-based training for staff caring for cardiovascular and critically ill patients.
This position serves as a clinical expert and resource for CVICU nursing practice and supports the development of staff knowledge, skills, and clinical judgment to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. The CVICU Educator collaborates with nursing leadership, physicians, preceptors, and interdisciplinary teams to support orientation, ongoing professional development, competency validation, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement initiatives related to cardiovascular critical care services.
Develops, coordinates, and evaluates orientation and onboarding programs for CVICU staff. Provides clinical education related to cardiovascular surgery, critical care, hemodynamic monitoring, and advanced cardiac therapies. Supports staff competency validation and annual education requirements.
Serves as a resource, mentor, and coach for nursing staff, preceptors, and charge nurses. Facilitates classroom, simulation, and bedside learning experiences. Collaborates with nursing leadership to identify educational needs and develop action plans to improve outcomes.
Participates in quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory readiness activities. Assists in the development and maintenance of policies, procedures, and clinical practice standards. Supports the growth and expansion of cardiovascular services through education and workforce development initiatives.
Evaluates educational outcomes through competency assessments, audits, and performance metrics. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to promote evidence-based practice and excellence in patient care. Participates in mock codes, STEMI drills, Code Blue debriefings, and simulation activities.

What we’re looking for Applicants should have a current Arizona RN license or Compact RN License with Arizona endorsement, and possess an Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing school.
Additional requirements include: Master’s Degree (MSN) in Nursing preferred. Minimum three (3) years of recent CVICU nursing experience required. Experience caring for post-operative cardiac surgery patients required.
Previous experience as a preceptor, charge nurse, educator, or clinical leader preferred. Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Arizona or compact state. BLS certification required.
ACLS certification required . CCRN, CSC, PCCN, or other cardiovascular specialty certification preferred. Experience with Impella, IABP, CRT, ECMO and advanced cardiovascular therapies preferred.
Experience supporting cardiovascular program development and open-heart surgery programs preferred.
