Certifications
✓Basic Life Support
✓Completion of all certification requirements of at least one of the following:
Education
✓High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
✓Completion of an accredited nursing program
✓Associate’s degree in nursing
Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred
Master’s degree in nursing preferred
Qualifications
✓Pathway 1 : One year of nursing experience
✓Pathway 2 : Two years of nursing experience
✓Registered Nurse (RN) with Authorization to Practice in the State of Texas
✓Required within sixty (60) days of start date
✓Safe Approach Level III
✓Required within six (6) months of hire
✓Completion of “Texas Teleforensic Remote Assistance Center Training: Connecting Rural Hospitals to Professional Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners” training (7 hours)
✓Required within ninety (90) days of start date
✓If working under Pathway 1, team members will work under the guidance of a TexTRAC expert forensic nurse at all appropriate times while performing the duties of this role.
✓Completion of an Adult/Adolescent SANE and/or Pediatric SANE didactic training (must meet the International Association of Forensic Nurses – SANE Education Guidelines)
✓Required within six (6) months of start date
One year of specialty experience in women’s health, pediatrics, emergency medicine, or intensive care preferred
CA-SANE through the Texas Office of the Attorney General preferred
CP-SANE through the Texas Office of the Attorney General preferred
CA-CP SANE through the Texas Office of the Attorney General preferred
SANE-A through the International Association of Forensic Nurses preferred
SANE-P through the International Association of Forensic Nurses preferred

About the role

The RN Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) facilitates timely medical forensic exams for patients who have experienced or are suspected of experiencing sexual assault, abuse, or exploitation. The SANE RN demonstrates competency in conducting medical forensic exams and collaborates with appropriate professionals within and outside the health system to implement individualized care plans.
