Nursing is the diagnosis and treatment of human responses to actual and potential health conditions through a therapeutic partnership with patients and families. As the coordinator and integrator of care, the Registered Nurse is accountable for planning, coordinating, and evaluating patient care. This highly skilled RN specializes in adult transplant and cellular therapy oncology care, coordinating complex multidisciplinary services across the continuum from referral through treatment, recovery, survivorship, and long-term follow-up.
Serving as the primary clinical and communication resource, this role ensures safe, seamless, and patient-centered care through education, care coordination, and continuity across care settings. Principle Responsibilities Care Coordination, Clinical Management, and Transitions Across the Continuum Coordinates care for adult transplant and cellular therapy patients across the full cancer care continuum, including pre-treatment, treatment, post-treatment, survivorship, and long-term monitoring.
Serves as the primary clinical and communication resource for Transplant and Cellular Therapy patients, facilitating progression through evaluation, workup, treatment planning, and therapy while ensuring timely information exchange among patients, providers, and multidisciplinary team members. Collaborates with providers and multidisciplinary care teams to coordinate the flow of clinical evaluations, diagnostic workups, and treatment readiness activities, ensuring timely scheduling, completion, and availability of results for review.
Coordinates care across key treatment phases, including conditioning, lymphodepletion, cell collection, infusion/transplant, and discharge planning. Monitors patient progress and coordination needs throughout treatment, proactively identifying issues and escalating clinical concerns as appropriate. Identifies patients who may qualify for clinical trials, supports protocol-specific workup activities, and notifies appropriate staff of potential cellular therapy candidates.
Patient Education and Caregiver Support Provides individualized education to patients and caregivers regarding treatment plans, timelines, testing requirements, symptom management, infection prevention, medication adherence, and follow-up expectations. Reinforces education at key transition points and supports informed decision-making and patient engagement across the care continuum. Identifies barriers to care progression and treatment readiness and connects patients to appropriate resources and team members to facilitate timely treatment.
Connects patients with supportive services (e.g., social work, rehabilitation, financial advocacy) to address holistic care needs. Financial Coordination and Payer Navigation Partnership Collaborates closely with the Transplant Financial Case Navigator to ensure timely insurance authorization and financial clearance across all phases of transplant and cellular therapy care. Provides necessary clinical documentation to support payer requirements, facilitates communication between clinical and financial teams, and helps mitigate delays related to coverage, approvals, or benefit limitations.
Regulatory, Accreditation, and Program Compliance Ensures accurate, timely documentation of coordination activities, patient education, and clinical communication. Partners with program leadership, quality teams, research and accreditation resources to support audits, site visits, data collection, and continuous improvement initiatives. Contributes to standardization, patient safety, and program development efforts.
Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) 2+ years experience in oncology (inpatient or outpatient), hematology, and/or transplant care coordination
- 3+ years of experience in oncology, hematology, or transplant care coordination, including bone marrow transplant, stem cell transplant, or cellular therapy programs Licenses/Certifications Current RN license through the Minnesota Board of Nursing Licensed Registered Nurse - WI Dept of Safety & Professional Services required within 90 days of hire Transplant and Cellular Therapy Registered Nurse (TCTRN) certification within 30 months of hire Must meet at least ONE of the requirements below:
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
- Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross
- Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire) Oncology-related specialty certification, such as Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN), Blood and Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse (BMTCN), or other oncology specialty certifications preferred Physical Demands Medium Work*: Lifting weight up to 32 lbs. occasionally (*Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), up to 25 lbs. frequently
$46.42 to $64.22 per hour The pay described reflects the base hiring
. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
