Job Title: Researcher 1 - Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Department: Medicine | Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Researcher-1 participates in execution and management of research projects in a biological/health science research laboratory investigating neuromotor dysfunction in the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) College of Medicine (COM) and Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC); participates in implementing goals and objectives of studies; designs and executes complex laboratory experiments; performs advanced biomechanical, electroencephalographic (EEG), and functional testing techniques; participates in recruitment, enrollment, and intervention delivery among human subjects with cancer and/or neurological deficits; collects, analyzes and interprets research data; assists with development and implementation of new and/or revised research methodologies and techniques; tests experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods and make recommendations for utilization; assists in establishment of controls, criteria and research standards; trains and/or supervises research staff in biophysical data acquisition and research participant safety; manages daily operations of the laboratory; oversees and initiates procurement of lab supplies and equipment; provides technical assistance and supervision of equipment; negotiates and oversees equipment service contracts and repairs; performs critical analysis of literature relevant to research being undertaken; assists in the preparation of research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at national and conferences and workshops, and in the writing of project reports, articles and other documents; assists principal investigator in the preparation of proposals to obtain new or renewal of extramural funding in support of research; coordinates laboratory activities and work assignments graduate and undergraduate students and laboratory research staff; oversees and coordinates periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment; performs additional duties as assigned.
Additional Information:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required; 3 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree, or 1 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree. Master's degree in an appropriate biological/health science with experience in human subjects’ research or an equivalent combination of education and experience in human subjects’ research is preferred. Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic and/or practical knowledge in the conduct of biomechanical/neuroscience/health science research is required.
Considerable knowledge of biomechanical laboratory methods, materials, and equipment is required including familiarity with MatLab, Excel. Proven ability to build rapport with individuals with neuromotor dysfunction is desired.
