and Responsibilities As our Respiratory Therapist, you will provide essential direct patient care, assessing, treating, and managing patients with respiratory disorders. Your role is vital for improving patient outcomes. Every day you will assess respiratory status, implement treatment plans (oxygen, ventilation, airway management), and educate patients/families.
You'll document interventions and collaborate with physicians and medical staff. To be successful, you will demonstrate strong clinical skills, critical thinking, and equipment proficiency. Excellent communication for patient interaction and interdisciplinary collaboration, plus a commitment to safety and continuous development, are essential.
Therapeutic use of all medical equipment: Calibrates and implements quality control measures for blood gas machines and documents results. Sets up ventilatory support systems. Cleans and maintains equipment in good working order.
Medical Judgement: Demonstrates competency in assessing and communicating the patients respiratory needs and clinical status. Responds appropriately to critical or dynamic patient care situations. Responsible for assessing and reassessing patients receiving RT services.
Perform diagnostic procedures: Demonstrates knowledge and skill in procedures and tasks within the Respiratory Departments scope of practice. Demonstrates proficient technical skills and competence in the performance of Respiratory Therapy by obtaining and using appropriate equipment and supplies. Draws and runs arterial blood gases.
Performs pulmonary bedside screening; performance of pulmonary function testing or a willingness to be trained in PFT. Performs EKGs in patient focused care units Ability to assist with therapeutic and diagnostic bronchoscopys as required. Demonstrates competency in communicating and assessing the patients respiratory needs and clinical status.
Compliance with department policy and procedures: Evaluates own performance and seeks validation resulting in positive change. Attends 80% of staff development meetings on a yearly basis. Demonstrates sensitivity to co-workers by providing support as it relates to job performance.
Actively participates in department committees or task forces. Works towards results to create positive change with self and team members Responsible to report to Department Manager: Keeps respiratory department manager/supervisor informed of any department/patient incidents and documents these incidents as directed. Responsible for emergency calls: Answers code blue and emergency calls appropriately.
Job Requirements Required Two (2) years experience or RRT with one(1) year experience, and Respiratory Care Practitioner: CA, upon hire and AHA Basic Life Support - CPR, within 30 Days and AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support, within 30 Days and AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support, within 30 Days and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), within 30 Days Preferred A minimum of one-year experience incritical care and ventilator management Where You'll Work Founded in 1940, Dignity Health - Marian Regional Medical Center is a 191-bed, acute care, nonprofit hospital located in Santa Maria, California.
