Under the direction of a licensed physician, and per prescription of a licensed physician or certified nurse practitioner, performs cardiopulmonary evaluation, respiratory therapy treatment techniques, and education of the patient, family and public. Evaluation shall include the acquisition, analysis, and interpretation of data obtained from physiological specimens, performing diagnostic tests, studies and research of the cardiopulmonary system and neurophysiological studies related to respiratory care.

Therapy shall include the application and monitoring of medical gases, and environmental control systems, mechanical ventilator support, artificial airway care, bronchopulmonary hygiene, pharmacologic agents related to respiratory care procedures, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation related and limited to respiratory care. Licensed Respiratory Therapists perform and administer routine, and emergent clinical assessments and respiratory care, to include emergent transportation, cardiopulmonary monitoring, diagnostic testing, and patient/caregiver education in the NICU, Adult ICU, ED, acute care medical/surgical units, Sleep Center, and Catheterization Laboratory.

Must be licensed by NYS as a Respiratory Therapist, and credentialed by the NBRC (National Board for Respiratory Care) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Technician, (CRT). BLS (Healthcare) certification is required within 6 weeks of hire. ACLS, PALS and NRP are required within 1 year of hire.

Minimally must possess an A. A. S. in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited college, as defined by NYS licensure law.

Computer literacy via demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office, healthcare/hospital-related I. T./I. S. programs, and databases is required.
