The Registered Professional Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing safe, comprehensive, and patient-centered nursing care. The RN identifies alterations in a patient’s health status, assesses responses to actual and potential health problems, develops and implements appropriate nursing interventions, and evaluates the effectiveness of care to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Whenever possible, the RN actively involves the patient, family members, and significant others in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.

The RN supervises and directs care provided by Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAPs), and appropriately assigns and delegates care to qualified members of the healthcare team. The RN also coordinates patient care with other healthcare professionals and disciplines as needed to ensure continuity and quality of care. The RN contributes to unit-based activities that promote a positive, collaborative, and professional work environment.

The RN practices autonomously and accountably, advocates for patients, and supports innovative approaches to patient care while fostering a climate of trust, collaboration, and professional excellence. The RN provides and coordinates care in support of the organization’s mission of delivering excellent patient care and nursing’s vision of setting a new standard of excellence in autonomous and accountable nursing practice.

QualificationsMinimum Education and Experience RequirementsBSN and professional nursing board certification preferred at time of hire. All nurses hired after April 30, 2014 without a BSN will be required to obtain a BSN within three years of hire. All nurses hired after June 30, 2011 without a professional nursing board certification will be required to obtain a professional nursing board certification after two years of hire or at the certification eligibility date for those certifications requiring more than two years of experience.

Motor Vehicle Operator DesignationEmployees in this position:Will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose. NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile:a) at least once daily,b) at least five individual trips per week, orc) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job. Licensure/Certification/RegistrationCurrent RN license in the State of Florida.
