To fulfill the role of an educator, change agent, researcher, servant leaders and mentor in clinical ambulatory areas. This includes but is not limited to assisting with the development of clinical education programs, providing on-site clinical education, consultation, and serve as a leader in the training and support to ambulatory management and staff as well as collaborate with a diverse group of other teams within all of UAB Medicine to achieve safe and quality care in patients at all ages.
To participate on various committees; provide staff orientation, as well as ongoing and continuing education. To influence patient care by role-modeling and will work very closely (hands-on) with all levels of ambulatory frontline staff as well as leadership in the ambulatory care and other areas to fulfill the responsibilities of this role. Key Duties & Responsibilities 1.
Fulfills the role of an educator in ambulatory clinical service areas. Assesses learning needs, competencies, strengths, and opportunities to improve staff’s critical thinking, interpersonal, and technical skills. Provides frequent feedback and evaluate outcomes.
Assists staff to build their knowledge and levels of competency in clinical practice. Collaborates with staff to determine their needs if they choose to advance their practice towards certification and/or other academic degrees. 2. Fulfills the role of change agent in ambulatory clinical service areas.
Engages in intra- and inter-professional groups in problem-solving, team building, and incorporating changes in individual and organizational needs. Identifies healthcare issues and help staff stay current in the latest evidence for new practices and quality indicators through learning activities, in services, and information-sharing. Assists staff assess and address behaviors that interfere with their ability to get their work done effectively, such as showing staff how to reorganize their time, prioritize their activities, and delegate appropriate tasks so that they are more confident and efficient in their work. 3.
Fulfills the role of researcher in ambulatory clinical service areas. Facilitates evidence based practice by bringing research to the point of care. Advises, collaborates, translates, integrates, and evaluates best practice that is in the literature and/or in progress within the organization through practice, education, and reflective discussion with staff.
Engages staff in evidence-based practice to help staff improve patient care outcomes and add to the body of ambulatory clinical practice knowledge as staff generate questions about better ways to care for their patients. 4. Fulfills the role of servant leader in ambulatory clinical service areas. Provides encouragement, respect, support, boundaries, protection, and guidance that influence staff’s transition into clinical ambulatory role.
Integrates ethical principles, service, and leadership into all of staff activities. Role models transformational leadership and professionalism, inviting staff to do the same. Shows others how to engage their peers and other healthcare providers when they are asked to lead a team so that they continue to work effectively in partnership with one another, with physicians, and with other services. 5.
Fulfills the role of mentor in ambulatory clinical service areas. Guides clinical staff along in their career, beginning with student orientation to their first job. May assist staff with a professional development plan and show them how to implement it.
Advises interested staff about resume and curriculum vitae. Listens to staff struggling to reach their goals; provide encouragement. Celebrates others’ accomplishments. 6.
Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Nursing with five (5) years recent clinical experience required. Competent in navigating electronic medical records.
Experienced in training adult learners at various skills levels in the healthcare industry. Must have a comprehensive working knowledge of healthcare standards based upon The Joint Commission, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), and OSHA, as well as the Alabama Board of Nursing “Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Code”. Knowledge of the role and scope of certified medical assistants required.
Proficient in MS Word, Power Point, Excel Spreadsheets, E-mail and Internet applications. A high level of accuracy in written, documented, and other methods of communication is critical to the success of this position. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience would be considered to acquire the competencies listed within this
. Five years of recent clinical experience in an ambulatory setting preferred. Hands-on experience with online learning systems desired preferred.
Certification in Ambulatory Care Nursing or Nursing Professional Development desired. MSN preferred. Licenses / Certifications / Registrations Must be a graduate of a professional school of nursing, with an unencumbered Alabama RN license.
Current CPR certification required or must be obtained within the first 30 days of employment.
