About this Unit:Are you looking to make an impact on the physical, emotional and cultural needs of patients and their families? If so, the Birthplace may be the right fit for you! The Birthplace at Southdale Hospital has three components: NICU, Family Care Center, and Labor and Delivery.
This extensive department offers professional growth by cross-training staff to other units within the Birthplace. The unit has 12 Labor/Delivery/Birthing rooms, 6 flex rooms, 3 OB triage rooms, 2 OR's, and a Recovery room, as well as 30-bed Mom/Baby private rooms. The NICU itself has 18 beds and is a Level III center caring for babies at 28 weeks and beyond.
The Birthplace averages 250 births per month.
This position is 60 hours per two weeks on the night rotation, 12 hour shifts with every third weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act.
The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate. ResponsibilitiesAssesses patient needs and identifies expected nursing outcomes. Collaborates with patient, family and other health team members to develop a nursing plan as part of an integrated, comprehensive plan of careDevelops an individualized plan based on age, social and cultural considerations, condition and other relevant needs.
Evaluates care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes. Collaborates and communicates effectively and respectfully with the patient, family and members of the health care team within and across care settings to promote partnership-based health careDemonstrates the ability to advance care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes. Promotes a culture of evidence based practice (EBP)Required QualificationsMN Registered Nurse (RN) LicenseBasic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Certification) 1-2 years of current RN Labor & Delivery experience.
