The Women’s and Children’s Services Manager is a registered professional nurse under the supervision and direction of the department director. The manager works cohesively with the department director and collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary health care team to ensure that our mission to Serve Christ by providing all people with exemplary medical service in an environment of love and care is fulfilled.

The manager will uphold our standards of behavior and will serve as a clinical resource and a professional role model for staff. The manager will also promote a cohesive structured unit that is Hard Wired for Excellence. Patient care responsibilities include maintaining the quality, safety, satisfaction and efficiency of patient care in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures as well as regulatory compliance.

The manager will incorporate current Women’s and Children’s Services’ theory and practice standards in the development and implementation of unit policies, procedures, and patient care standards. This will involve directing, planning, implementing, facilitating, and evaluating patient care provided in the Women’s and Children’s Services unit . The manager is responsible for coordinating and facilitating the unit quality performance improvement plan.

The manager is responsible for the day to day unit level operations including financial oversight of resources and supplies. The manager will respond to the needs of the unit by serving as a clinical resource. The listing of job duties contained in this job description is not all inclusive.

1. The Nurse Manager is competent in the duties of a Registered Nurse and provides oversight for all delivered nursing care within the unit. See RN

. 3. Managerial areas of oversight and collaboration with the Unit Director Finance Budget--Capital Research capital budget requests. Budget –Operational Submits justification for operational needs of the unit.

Cooperates in the determination of units of service. Coordinates and justifies requested staffing needs. Monitors unit expenses.

Makes recommendations for changes in supplies and non-depreciable equipment. Coordinates spending requests for unit. New Services Submits suggestions for new services to director.

Assists in evaluating new services. Works with director and staff to implement approved new services. Evaluates effectiveness and efficiency of services once implemented.

Labor Control Prepares staffing schedule according to staffing matrix. Anticipates variations and makes adjustments by monitoring staffing, supplies, and other resources. Utilizes low census appropriately.

People Employee Engagement Supports Hardwiring Excellence strategies. Supports and assists with employee engagement program for unit. Develops action plans for improvement as needed.

Participates in MyRounding and meets monthly rounding goals. Performance Management Responsible for performance management for all staff on unit. Seeks Unit Director input as necessary.

Actively practices coaching and uses Studer’s Coach-Support-Coach model when giving feedback. Completes all new hire evaluations and meets with new staff regularly to provide support and guidance. Serves as a resource for staff to meet goals.

Just Culture Acts as a role model for the Just Culture principals. Applies Just Culture principles when managing performance concerns. Staff Education Identifies unit educational needs and develops the plan and budget to accomplish.

Responsible for unit based staff education including clinical skills and knowledge. Will work collaboratively with educators from Faith Health University on an ongoing basis. Ensures timely completion of required education and holds staff accountable to deadlines.

Physician Engagement Works collaboratively with the providers to resolve issues and concerns. Refers unresolved physician issues to director. Retention Actively engages in the pre-boarding, onboarding, and orientation of new hires.

Always looking for opportunities to improve. Develops action plans as needed to improve retention. Works collaboratively with the Unit Director, HR and others as needed to implement retention strategies.

Recruitment/Hiring Responsible for ensuring the HR process is followed with respect to hiring. Screens applicants and sets up interviews. Assists with the peer interviewing process and hiring selection.

Actively participates in recruitment activities. Terminations Ensures that progressive Performance Management has been followed and involves Unit Director and HR for involuntary terminations. Prepares in collaboration with the Unit Director and HR the necessary disciplinary documents.

Assures compliance with employment policies and procedures and utilizes HR as a resource. Sends all properly completed termination paperwork to HR in a timely manner. Productivity Standards Collaborates with the Unit Director to determine productivity standards.

Conveys productivity standards to staff and assures compliance. Equipment Assures proper training for all new equipment and implements appropriate competency testing. Suggests new equipment and recommends updated equipment to Unit Director.

System Analysis Proposes changes to the unit system to the Unit Director. In collaboration with staff and others implements system changes into effective unit operations. o Assures staff competency related to documentation in the electronic health record. Technology/IT Implementation Assure appropriate hardware is available to support IT applications.

Assists with assuring competency for use of any IT applications and recommends additional competencies as needed. Quality and Service Leader Evaluation Management (LEM) Collaborates with the Unit Director in cascading strategic goals to self and staff. Completes 90 Day Goals and Action Plan using the LEM tool.

Understands that the annual evaluation is partially based on achievement of LEM goals. Patient Experience Evaluates patient experience data for areas of opportunity and implements strategies for improvement in collaboration with the Unit Director and staff. Assures achievement of organization defined patient experience scores.

Participates daily in Nurse Leader Patient Rounding to improve patient safety and quality. Provides 3:1 feedback to staff in a timely manner. Responds to all patient complaints and refers for action as appropriate.

Core Measures/Performance Improvement Suggests improvements in processes to assure core measure compliance at 100%. Works with staff and physicians to attain 100% compliance. Revises processes to improve or enhance compliance.

Compliance Assures competency and annual in-service is conducted as appropriate. Addresses behavior that does not support compliance. Evidence Based Practice Regulatory Is knowledgeable regarding regulatory requirements and participates in survey prep meetings/activities and corrects deficiencies.

Ensures that the unit and staff are consistently survey ready. Monitors unit and staff compliance with regulatory standards. Provides staff education when needed.

Maintains a collaborative relationship with the survey coordinator. Complication rate/Readmission rate Acts on recommendations to respond to variations from benchmark. Provides for staff education to assure compliance of recommended changes.

National Patient Safety Goals Provides education on goals and their relationship to practice on unit. Implements processes to assure compliance with goals. Practices goals as role model for staff.

Stakeholder Community Involvement Actively supports organization-sponsored activities. Supports community health related endeavors. May serve as a leader for community health education or fundraising.

Coordination of Services Actively participates in assigned organization committees and groups. Attends medical staff meetings as requested. Works cooperatively with other departments/units, to ensure patients receive quality care.

Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, to include after-hours and weekends as necessary. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

. Other information: EDUCATION (Minimum Requirements for Position): Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Previous clinical experience required. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license or temporary permit from the State of Nebraska required. Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained within one full month from date of hire (Travelers-required upon hire) required.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within one year from date of hire (Travelers-required upon hire) required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) obtained within one year from date of hire (Travelers-required upon hire) required. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) obtained within one year from date of hire (Travelers-required upon hire) required.

Non-Violent Crisis Intervention program obtained within six full months from date of hire (Travelers-required upon hire)required. WMCH: (Labor & Delivery, NICU, or Peds) certification obtained within two years from date of hire required.
