Manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. The registered nurse is a professional who is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. The RN is ultimately responsible for documentation of assessments, interventions, outcomes, discharge plans, and patient/family education.

They collaborate with physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary health care team to provide continuity of care. The registered nurse is responsible for the supervision of the delegation of tasks to appropriate individuals and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate patient care and is accountable to the policies and procedures of the organization. In addition, the registered nurse will work closely with internal teammates to collaborate with industrial delegates on workmen's compensation cases.

The registered nurse must be proficient at performing phlebotomy, breath alcohol testing, EKG's, spirometry, audiometry, and urine drug screening. Essential Job Duties and

1. Demonstrates ability to appropriately modify approach and procedures to meet needs of age/diversity of population served for the following age groups: ☐ Neonate (birth – 28 days) ☐ Infant (29 days – less than 1 year) ☐ Pediatric/Child (1 year – 12 years) ☒ Adolescent (12 years – 18 years) ☒ Adult (18 years – 65 years) ☒ Geriatric (over 65 years) Incorporates cultural considerations in the provisions of care. Knowledge of growth and developmental stages.

Considers life changes/effects on health beliefs and behaviors. Provides necessary safety measures. Provides information and involves family/caregiver in decision making. 2.

Competent use of the nursing process to assess priorities, formulate, implement, evaluate and adapt the interdisciplinary plan of care to ensure quality of care is delivered. Performs admission assessment in accordance with specific unit standards. Identifies and documents patient’s plan of care.

Reassessment of plan of care is done within 24 hours and ongoing, until outcomes are met or discharge. Assesses the patient/significant other's response to teaching plan to evaluate the effectiveness of the plan Based on reassessment, plan of care will remain the same or be modified to meet the patient/significant other's identified needs. Delegates and assigns appropriate patient care.

Recognizes changes in patient status based on interpretation of assessments and carries out physician’s orders 3. Develops, discusses, and communicates an inter-disciplinary plan of care for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/family/significant other to address all identified needs. Plan of care will include interventions and outcomes for each identified problem. 4.

Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient. Demonstrates knowledge of hospital policies and procedures for administering, verifying, and recording medications. Demonstrates knowledge of commonly used meds: action, dose, and side effects.

Administers blood and blood products following hospital policy and procedures. Initiates and maintains IV access according to policy and procedures. Functions successfully in an emergency situation.

Maintains professional composure and confidence during stressful situations. 5. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team, to ensure quality care. Demonstrates ability to use and maintain multiple Electronic Medical Record programs.

Demonstrates ability to use multiple computer programs including but not limited to Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Word, and cloud-based retention of appropriate files. Nursing documentation is reflected in the patient medical record with appropriate entries per several types of encounters. Performs all responsibilities/duties required by Occupational Medicine as defined in the scope of practice, to assure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed.

This includes, but is not limited to, the age of the patient served. Acts as the triage nurse when multiple patients arrive at a similar time and will orchestrate efficient checking of all patients. Greets each patient promptly and pleasantly once a chart is ready.

Brings patient back to patient room and performs a set of vital signs and a brief history. Completely fills out medications, drug allergies and past medical/surgical history. Performs basic in-office labs a directed by physician or advance care professional.

Consistently and skillfully perform spirometry, EKG, respirator fit tests, audiometry, urine drug screens, or breath alcohol tests as needed. Orders medications, additional labs or radiology exams as directed by physician. Will act as Workmen's Compensation liaison between industrial delegate, physician or advance care practitioner and insurance company.

Will work with other clinics to get all consults set up. Documents all patient phone calls within the nurse's notes. Completes the patient record after each visit to make sure everything is filed correctly.

Competent use of the nursing process to assess, prioritize, formulate, implement, evaluate and adapt the interdisciplinary plan of care to meet the patient's age-specific needs. Initiate the discharge plan as appropriate and provide continuity of care to meet the patient's changing needs and achieve the outcomes. Includes and communicates the plan of care to patient, family, significant others and relays pertinent information through appropriate documentation and referral to other health care team members.

Carries out physician or advance care practitioner orders. Performs employee health evaluation upon hire of new employees according to established protocol prior to hire. New employee physicals, lab work (ordered & completed prior to physical), follow-up visit for TB skin test reading declines.

Records information on the patient/employee health record in accordance with charting and regulatory guidelines. Maintains accurate records to properly track employee health for: New hires health history and completes and assessment, terminations/transfers/retirements, TB skin tests, HB vaccine/flu vaccine/Covid-19 vaccine, Blood pressure and glucose checks as needed or requested. Performs technical aspects of patient care according to established policies and procedures.

Delegates and assigns appropriate patient care. Facilitates employee health care following illness or injury as needed for exposure or post exposure follow up or communicable disease management. Refers employee to personal physician or ER for appropriate examination and/or treatment based on nurse's judgment for non-work-related illness and injury.

Coordinates employee immunization benefit program. Provides yearly flu immunization program to employees in a timely manner. Provides TB testing for all employees per policy.

Monitors facility environment and personnel practices, I.e. proper lifting techniques, gloves and masks worn appropriate etc. Regularly reviews patient charts collecting epidemiological data in order to identify nosocomial and community acquired infections. Develops and implements educational session for hospital personnel for purposes of orientation and on-going in-services regarding employee health and wellness, ergonomic and safety issues.

Assist with various components of the wellness program including employee health screenings, annual qualifier report, compliance reporting for influenza and Covid-19 vaccines, and YMCA discount. 6. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary. Demonstrates willingness to identify and/or assume activities relative to the developmental needs of the unit and the nursing department.

Demonstrates dependability/flexibility in meeting scheduling needs of the unit and hospital. Demonstrates willingness to float to other units as needed. Participates in shared leadership.

If in charge, provides for the safety of department employees. Accepts assignment as a coach for new staff. Accepts responsibility for mentoring healthcare students.

Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, to include after-hours and weekends as necessary. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

The requirements listed below must be representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or ability required.

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license or temporary permit from the State of Nebraska required. Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained within one full month from date of hire (Travelers-required upon hire) required.

Previous Experience

Previous clinical experience preferred. Skills/Knowledge
