• Residency nurses will initiate professional nursing practice careers in a supportive environment committed to mentoring, coaching and learning. They will build confidence through a structured, professional transition-into-practice experience that is customized to individual developmental needs. They will also develop leadership skills that will positively impact the clinical practice environment and patient outcomes. They will provide safe and effective nursing care to assigned patients utilizing the nursing process. Must practice nursing under the direct supervision of a registered nurse during their orientation period. POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS­ : High School/GED required.
• Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing
• Temporary GN permit or RN license from the State of Texas prior to beginning employment required.
• Current BLS certification
• ACLS certification within three (3) months after transfer into home based department (as applicable to department)
• PALS certification within six (6) months after transfer into home based department (as applicable to department) Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Nights and/or weekend work will be required Bilingual – English/Spanish preferred JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE­ :
• New graduate nurse or RN with less than 12 months experience
• RN with limited or no hospital experience Knowledge of State, Federal, and JCAHO regulations. Test

• B. Working Conditions : The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents. C.
