Each University of Vermont Medical Center Security Officer is assigned to a specific Campus. The primary responsibilities of the Security Officer are to conduct patrol duties, respond immediately to emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance, and document services provided on each shift. The Security Officer is expected to act in a courteous and professional manner at all times.

Note: Emergency calls for assistance frequently require Security Officers to take the lead in controlling a violent/threatening situation after clinical and non-clinical staff have attempted to verbally deescalate a difficult situation. Security intervention frequently requires detaining and/or restraining the violent patient, visitor, or staff member.
