M (35 hours per week) Weekends Required Duties & Responsibilities Purpose of Position : Under medical direction, performs work requiring a high degree of knowledge and skill in the operation and monitoring of bio-medical machines. Responsible for overall administration of bio-medical machine department in a large hospital or hospital center. Participates in research studies.; performs related work.
Examples of Typical Tasks : 1. Serves as member of team with medical and nursing personnel in performing difficult or specialized treatments and examination. 2. Plans, organizes and directs operations of bio-medical machine department.
Is responsible for administration and coordination of the service and maintenance of highest standards. Supervises technical and auxiliary staff assigned to various units and directs preparation of work schedules. 3. Develops and formulates methods and procedures to govern operation of service.
Conducts continuing evaluation of effectiveness and recommends and implements necessary changes. Exercises central control over inventory, requisitioning, delivery and distribution of supplies and equipment. Establishes guidelines for inspection, maintenance and repair of equipment and supplies.
Evaluates effectiveness of equipment, and recommends and arranges for major replacements. 4. Prepares budget request for personal service, equipment and supplies. 5. Directs establishment and maintenance of system of records and reports. 6.
Participates in studies and research projects. 7. Provides consultative and technical advice to professional and technical personnel. 8. Keeps abreast of current technical literature and puts into use new procedures previously approved by proper authority. 9.
Participates in planning and organizing on-the-job training and special training programs for medical, nursing and technical staff assigned to service. Teaches selected subjects.
1. Associate Degree, which included course work in Bio-Medical Technician field, and three years experience in the appropriate bio-medical technician field in an approved hospital or health facility; or, 2. Senior high school graduation or possession of a High School Equivalency Diploma, and four years experience in the appropriate bio-medical technical field in an approved hospital or health facility; or, 3.
A satisfactory equipment combination of education and experience. 4. Employees performing blood analysis require certificates of qualification issued by the New York City Department of Health in the subspecialty of 29 (Ph blood gases) or specialty 28 (general clinical chemistry). Department Preferences Turn on anesthesia machines in the morning before cases begin in the main OR, L&D & GI areas Run self-test on all anesthesia machines to assure compliance Check that anesthesia machines and carts contain the minimum par levels of all supplies at all times On a weekly basis, pick up carts from pharmacy and replace medication trays in the Main OR, L&D and GI During turnover between cases, dispose of "dirty" items such as suction, circuit, laryngoscope blades and wipe down machine to ensure the anesthesia machine and anesthesia workspace is ready to be used for another case Ensure that the anesthesia carts, machines, cabinets and workroom(s) do not have any expired items and are stocked with minimum par levels at all times Maintain and organize the anesthesia workroom(s) in an orderly manner to ensure items are functional and ready available at all times Maintain a physical presence in designated perioperative areas with a readiness to assist anesthesiologists/CRNAs as needed at all times At the end of scheduled cases, promptly re-stock carts, cabinets and machines to maintain minimum supply par levels Stock anesthesia workroom(s) when supplies go below par levels Maintain inventory of all supplies in anesthesia workroom and give an accurate weekly report to supervisor of items needed to be ordered once par level is reached Demonstrate knowledge how to operate and troubleshoot problems with anesthesia equipment Benefits NYC Health and Hospitals offers a competitive benefits package that includes: Comprehensive Health Benefits for employees hired to work 20+ hrs. per week Retirement Savings and Pension Plans Paid Holidays and Vacation in accordance with employees' Collectively bargained contracts Loan Forgiveness Programs for eligible employees College tuition discounts and professional development opportunities College Savings Program Union Benefits for eligible titles Multiple employee discounts programs Commuter Benefits Programs
