To serve as a senior leader within the Office of Risk Management and is responsible for enterprise-wide risk data strategy, governance, and system enablement. To provide leadership and oversight for the risk-related information systems, analytics, and data integrity functions that support clinical, operational, regulatory, and enterprise risk management activities across UAB Medicine. This role supports the facilitation and advancement of the enterprise risk management (ERM) program, including coordination of risk identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting activities in collaboration with executive leadership and key stakeholders.
To ensure the accuracy, consistency, integrity, and appropriate use of risk data across the within risk management systems and used across the organization, while promoting integration, standardization, and optimal utilization of available tools and technologies. This position has functional oversight of staff and workflows supporting risk systems, and data entry processes, and works collaboratively with Risk Management leadership, Patient Safety, Compliance, Information Technology, Legal, and operational stakeholders to enable informed, data - driven risk management and decision - making. 1.
Provides strategic leadership for enterprise risk management data and information systems, ensuring alignment with organizational goals related to patient safety, quality, compliance, and risk mitigation. 2. Oversees the design, use, optimization, and governance of risk‑related systems and with Information Technology and system vendors. 3. Maintains functional oversight of staff and processes that support risk‑related systems, analytics, and data entry activities, ensuring appropriate workflows, role clarity, and alignment with established standards. 4.
Establishes and enforces data quality and validation processes, including ongoing audit and review of risk data entry and documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and consistency across the enterprise. 5. Develops and promotes integrated, standardized, and consistent risk data across departments and entities, reducing duplication and variation while supporting enterprise‑wide visibility into risk trends and performance. 6.
Leads the development and maintenance of risk management dashboards, metrics, and reports, enabling leadership to monitor risk exposure, trends, and mitigation efforts at the operational and enterprise levels. 7. Support the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program by facilitating risk identification, assessment, and monitoring activities in collaboration with leadership and key stakeholders. 8. Maintain and support the enterprise risk register and reporting processes, including tracking key risks, mitigation strategies, and status updates, and providing leadership with clear visibility into top organizational risks. 9.
Leverage risk information systems and data analytics to enhance ERM processes, enabling integrated reporting, real‑time insights, and improved decision‑making across the organization. 10. Drives exploration and broader adoption of available tools and technologies to enhance risk data analytics, reporting, visualization, and operational efficiency. 11. Serves as a key liaison between Risk Management, Patient Safety, Compliance, IT, Legal, and operational stakeholders to define requirements, prioritize enhancements, and resolve system or data‑related issues. 12.
Establishes and maintains documentation, standards, and governance processes related to risk systems, data definitions, and reporting to ensure continuity, transparency, and institutional knowledge. 13. Provides guidance, training, and consultation to leaders and staff on appropriate use, interpretation, and application of risk data to support risk‑informed decision‑making. 14. Identifies system‑level opportunities to improve data capture, workflow efficiency, and analytic capability, and leads or supports related improvement initiatives. 15.
Monitors emerging trends, technologies, and best practices related to enterprise risk management systems and analytics, recommending enhancements as appropriate. 16. Provides support and guidance on risk-related matters within scope of role and expertise and collaborates with Risk, Legal, Compliance, and clinical leadership as appropriate. 17. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Graduate degree in business, insurance, risk management, law, health administration, public administration, or health care field and seven (7) years of health care experience in progressively responsible roles required. Experience with healthcare risk management systems and enterprise data environments required. Work experience may not substitute for education requirement.
ARM, CPCU, FASHRM, DFASHRM, or CPHQ or CPHRM designation preferred.
