A Brief OverviewThe Senior Therapist is responsible for the oversight of the outpatient therapy clinic including the direction of the service delivery performed in accordance with the hospital and department policies and procedures.

Key management responsibilities include, and are not limited to, new staff orientations, ensuring staff competencies, staff performance reviews, attending monthly manager meetings, maintaining employee files, payroll / attendance records, maintaining facility environment per Joint Commission and DHEC standards, clinic operations / staffing, clinic expenses / inventory, physician marketing / relationships, monthly chart audits, and performing required emergency drills.

The senior therapist is also responsible for providing a full range of therapeutic services including assessment, treatment planning and therapeutic interventions in an interdisciplinary environment consistent with the position's qualification, professional practices, and ethical standards. The incumbent shall also demonstrate accountability for the contribution to program development, quality improvement, problem solving, and productivity enhancement in a flexible interdisciplinary fashion.

Performs other duties as required. The employee will complete other duties as assigned.

Review physician's referral (prescription), patient's condition, medical history, and submitted medical records to determine physical therapy treatment required. Plans and prepares written treatment program based on evaluation of patient and incorporate proper interventions that can help patients better perform everyday tasks, decrease pain, ambulation, and improve strength and mobility Evaluate patients' functional ability through various standardized tests, measures patient's strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, and level of independence with daily activities, and records findings to develop treatment programs Develop a treatment plan for patients with specific goals and tasks Administer treatments involving application of physical agents, such as cold packs, contrast baths, moist packs, ultraviolet and infrared lamps, Iontophoresis, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound machines Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjusts treatments to achieve maximum benefit Record treatment, responses, and progress in the patient’s electronic medical record and prepare reports as indicated by licensure, the provider, and or insurance recommendations Instruct patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home Complete documentation per clinical / department guidelines and meets expectations of monthly department chart audits Ensure clinic productivity by maintaining adequate staffing to volume as evidenced by the financials for the department, and individual productivity at target Adherence to the clinic budget as it relates to managing patient volume and operating expensesPromote/educate Organizations Rehabilitation programs to referring physicians, healthcare providers, and or co-workers by performing in-services and/or marketing activities Reduce cancel/no-show rates to improve quality of care and patient outcomes Achieve the established average monthly patient care productivity metric Complete required orientation as directed by facilityEducation QualificationsBachelor's Degree Required Master's Degree if obtained prior to 2016 Preferred Doctoral Degree if obtained after 2016 Required Skills and AbilitiesAbility to utilize therapy equipment in an outpatient rehabilitation setting to provide treatment and procedures Punctual and dependent for assigned/confirmed shifts Ability to respect cultural and religious practices of patients Licenses and CertificationsPhysical Therapist - South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Required Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association within 30 Days Required Physical DemandMedium-Heavy Physical DemandThe intent of this job description is to provide a representative and level of the types of duties and responsibilities that will be required of positions given this title and shall not be construed as a contract for employment nor a declaration of the total of the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position.
