Full-time, 40 hours per week. Provides leadership to the departments within the Methodist Women's Hospital Laboratory and the Methodist Hospital Laboratory which also conducts business as The Pathology Center through planning, day-to-day customer/patient/employee satisfaction (rounding), budgeting, and human resource management.

Goals and objectives are submitted annually and reviewed quarterly. Timeliness and priorities meet expectations of staff and management team.

Works collaboratively with the physician leadership team. Responsible for the development of the Strategic Plan for the Laboratory. Plans, develops, and organizes the strategic plan with collaboration from physicians, supervisors and staff within the Laboratory.

Leads and directs the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes. Timeliness and strategic initiatives are reviewed quarterly to identify changes, barriers and completed initiatives. Fosters a unified culture and promotes a process for collaboration, cooperation and sharing of information and mutual teamwork for systems and process management.

Promotes and demonstrates a commitment to quality and continuous process improvement. Actively participates in performance improvement teams both within and outside of the Laboratory. Identifies opportunities of improvement and efficiency with laboratory processes.

Establishes operations standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety and timeliness. Demonstrates support in team building activities. Models the Leadership Standards of Behavior and upholds a commitment to Service Excellence.

Effective communication with internal and external customers in order to ensure a timely response to new clinical service trends and program planning. Establishes a regular mode of clear communication and active listening for direct reports, supervisors, employees and physicians of the laboratory. Maintains open communication with other departments and services within Methodist Hospital and Methodist Health System. Monitors utilization patterns of lab services and advises the Medical Director and other appropriate staff of developing trends in clinical service needs. Monitors the technical and operational standards as well as regulatory environment for accreditation and safety purposes.

Ensures operational adherence to applicable policies and procedures by all technical and operational staff. Ensures operational adherence to currently accepted technical service standards for laboratory medicine. Monitors the regulatory environment for any changes that may impact our technical and operational standards.

Maintains an environment of regulatory and accrediting readiness for the Laboratory. Responsible for the financial performance of laboratory operations. Prepares and oversees the operations budget and revenue/expenditures to ensure compliance and fiscal responsibility.

Monitors the billing processes to ensure compliance and fiscal responsibility. Oversees the development of the Laboratory's plans and programs in evaluation of long-range planning and regulatory action impacting operations. Responsible for the human resource management of laboratory personnel.

Working within the organization's Human Resource Policies and Procedures, directs the management of all human resource activities and employee relation's matters related to technical and operational support staff. Effectively motivates and engages staff in the operations of laboratory to ensure satisfied team members committed to a culture of Service Excellence and engaged employees. Protects patients and reduces risk to the organization by soliciting and acting upon staff feedback.

Actively and regularly rounds in the various departments of laboratory to be visible and create an open environment to engage with staff. Identifies and recruits top talent and develops a plan for retention. Demonstrates excellent conflict prevention and management skills.

Responsible and knowledgeable of information management & regulations related to the lab environment. Monitors the changing environment for information management adhering to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations and standards and promoting efficiency and reliability. Works collaboratively with Methodist Health System's Information Technology department to manage Information Technology (IT) lab projects.

Manages the contract review process. Negotiates, advises and administers all contracts for the Laboratory. Performs the necessary annual review of contracts in effect.

Implements and reviews the required processes to carry out contract obligations. Other duties as assigned. Willing to assist as requested.

Job RequirementsEducationBachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology science with at least one year experience with high complexity testing required. Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Arts (MA) completed within three years of hire. ExperienceMinimum of three years’ experience of clinical laboratory experience required.

Minimum of four years' upper management experience in clinical laboratory science required. License/CertificationsCertified as Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist by ASCP or AMT required. Skills/Knowledge/AbilitiesMust possess strong knowledge of clinical laboratory practice, applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and professional standardsAn excellent negotiator, strategic visionary, energetic, forward thinker and creative individual with high ethical standards.

An intelligent, articulate team player who can relate to people at all levels of the organization and who possesses excellent communication skills.
