Spanish Medical Interpreter, Full Time, Varied Shifts

Certifications
certification through national governing body preferred
Education
✓Associate degree or higher in Interpreting and/or Interpreter Training Program graduate
Qualifications
✓Minimum of 2 years of experience interpreting
✓Document interpreting encounters as required by department policy
✓Ability to interpret effectively, accurately, and impartially both receptive and expressive, using medical terminology as appropriate
✓Ability to work with interdisciplinary professionals in a team environment
✓Prior to being considered, Interpreter must have a passing score from department administered interpreting assessment
Proficiency in English and the target language(s) with strong written and verbal communication skills preferred
Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare procedures preferred
Minimum of 2 years of experience interpreting preferred
Mental health setting preferred
Ability to interpret effectively, accurately, and impartially both receptive and expressive, using medical terminology as appropriate preferred
Ability to work with interdisciplinary professionals in a team environment preferred
Comfortability working in the medical field preferred
Flexible in response to changes in service provision demands preferred
Able to maintain professional demeanor in all situations preferred
Experience in problem solving and complaint resolution preferably in a healthcare setting preferred
Prior to being considered, Interpreter must job shadow position for hire for a minimum of 2 hours preferred
Prior to being considered, Interpreter must have a passing score from department administered interpreting assessment preferred
Preferred computer experience with a working knowledge of database entry, Microsoft Office products, and strong attention to detail required

About the role

The Spoken Language Interpreter will provide interpreting, transliterating, and translation services, as needed for Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients and staff throughout the University Hospital. The Interpreter will adhere to an exemplary code of ethics at all times, including the highest regard for patient confidentiality.
