The Special Education Supervisor is the on-site leader responsible for leading a team of Special Education Teachers. The Special Education supervisor ensures patient centered education is appropriately provided on an individual and group level. Provides continuous training and education on CDE standards, curriculum implementation, IEP compliance, and evaluation procedures.
Oversees all development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), Evaluations, and academic testing. Provides classroom skills assessment, academic skills evaluation, educational programming and transition planning to day treatment patients. Provides educational counseling services and recommendations to parents regarding the educational needs of their children.
Serves as liaison to patient's school district coordinator. Participates, along with clinical staff, parents, patient and receiving school personnel, in transition planning to a patient's community-based school at discharge from treatment. Master's degree in special education obtained from an accredited institution. Education is verified. Five years paid experience in a teaching position; at least three in special education Demonstrated experience in an education and/or behavioral health setting Knowledge of current state and federal education-related legislation Bi-lingual in Spanish
Together with Education Manager, ensures school program adheres to the Colorado Department of Education and State Licensing requirements and guidelines. Leads a team of Special Education Teachers and Special Services (Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathologist, reading interventionist), including oversight of hiring, onboarding, training, retention, and evaluation of performance. May be required to cover in the classroom when teachers are absent or based on business need.
Expertly utilizes trauma-informed care to establish and maintain strong relationships with patients, effectively interpret behavior, and appropriately respond to meet the patient’s needs. Ensures that educational services are delivered in a culturally sensitive manner and that all federal, state, and local educational requirements are met (including specialized instruction in accordance with Individual Education Plans).
Responsible for setting up, coordinating, and overseeing systems such as Individual Education Plan (IEP) record system, data tracking, student files, and service delivery for students with disabilities. Serves as the Curriculum Coordinator to ensure compliance with the Colorado Department of Education Office of Facility School curriculums Collaborates with public and private educational systems to obtain and communicate educational information and to arrange appropriate educational services and transition plans.
Satisfies all Intermountain Health requirements. Maintains constant compliance with appropriate (on and off-site) school accreditation standards. Perform other duties as assigned.
