More about our team The Student Nurse Extern (SNE 1) Program provides nursing students with practical work experiences to facilitate their transition into the role of a registered nurse. Throughout the paid program, learning and nursing engagement occurs on a 24hr per unit basis in a broad range of acute care, critical care, emergency care, psychiatry, women’s & children, surgical/outpatient areas.
SNEs gain hands-on experience in: Patient Care. Teamwork, Critical Thinking, Communication Skills and Professional Development How you’ll contribute A Student Nurse Extern I who excels in this role: Works collaboratively with the patient care team. Performs direct patient care under the direction, delegation and supervision of a registered nurse.
Documents patient care given. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to supervising RN. Maintains positive professional relationship with patient/ families, coworkers, and health care team.
Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation. Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs. Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient. Supports performance improvement philosophy.
