Supv, Pathology-Clinical

Responsible for supervising staff members within the laboratory section(s) or area(s) of responsibility and performs clinical and administrative duties. Oversees the daily performance of the laboratory, ensuring quality work and adequate staffing within area of responsibility. Oversees departmental quality initiatives, procedure updates, employee training and education, evaluation and implementation of new procedures, equipment, and computer functionality, and ensures compliance with accrediting agencies.

Assists Manager with interview and hiring of new staff. Coordinates development, review, competencies, and training activities of all staff with other departmental leaders and management staff. Assures timely, effective communication with employees.

Confers with and counsels staff members regarding problems, errors, inquiries. Promotes teamwork and maintains focus on customer service. Participates in section administrative activities including but not limited to maintenance of employee records, inventory control/ordering, scheduling, and budgetary planning.

Coordinates operational, personnel, and budgetary administrative components with Section Manager/management staff to assure optimal application of resources. Provides after hours assistance as needed. Delegates assignments and tasks as required to guarantee accuracy and promptness of patient testing and efficient laboratory operation.
