✓Requirements
Licensure
✓must be licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine as a Surgical Tech.
Certifications
✓AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
✓Certification as a Surgical Tech required
✓Requirements will include successful completion of the orientation checklist and skills/credentials/competency requirements of the specific unit.
Education
✓Graduate of a School of Surgical Technology.
Qualifications
✓Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
✓Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
✓Ability to accept responsibility and accountability to perform delegated aspects of the nursing process.
✓Requires the cognitive ability and practical ability to provide nursing care appropriate to the patient population assigned, considering patient age and diagnosis, with full implementation of the nursing process to include Assessment/Reassessment, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation.
✓Requires a full range of motion, including handling and lifting patients and/or equipment, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
✓Requires standing and walking for an extensive period of time.
✓May require lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds. May require frequent bending, squatting, and kneeling.
✓Requires corrected vision and hearing to the normal range.
✓Requires the ability to work under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours.
Previous experience in an acute care hospital setting preferred.
