You’ll need
Certifications
✓Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. (American Heart Association)
✓Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required .
Education
Graduate of an accredited or recognized Surgical Technology program preferred.
Qualifications
✓Strong knowledge of sterile and aseptic technique.
✓Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, supplies, equipment, and procedures.
✓Understanding of basic anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and surgical terminology.
✓Ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and operative team.
✓Ability to recognize and promptly address breaks in sterile technique.
✓Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
✓Ability to remain organized and composed in high-pressure and emergency situations.
✓Ability to prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced surgical environment.
✓Effective verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
✓Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
✓Ability to follow physician direction, nursing direction, hospital policy, and established departmental procedures.
✓Ability to adapt to changing surgical schedules, procedures, equipment, and patient care needs.
✓Familiarity with infection prevention practices and Standard Precautions.
✓Basic computer and electronic documentation skills.
Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist/Scrub Tech in an acute-care hospital, operating room, ambulatory surgery center, or comparable surgical environment preferred.
Experience scrubbing a variety of surgical specialties is strongly preferred.
