JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE Provides system-wide oversight for SHS Laboratory departments and services, including Point of Care Services. May assist in direct clinical care as needed and appropriate. Responsible for personnel management (evaluations/hiring/firing), budget planning and monitoring, compliance with regulatory requirements, and strategic planning.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION The laboratory teams at Samaritan Health Services have responsibilities for testing samples that may include blood, body fluids and tissue to aid in diagnosis of diseases, illnesses or conditions that may need medical attention. Point of Care (POC) offers the opportunity to work on a different side of the laboratory experience. POC testing is performed at the bedside (inpatient) or near the point of care (outpatient clinics) by non-laboratory healthcare professionals to obtain faster results and improve patient treatment decisions.

The POC team follows CLIA and CAP requirements as applicable. EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS ASCP, AMT or equivalent certified Medical Laboratory Scientist required. Seven (7) years experience in a clinical role, and five (5) years experience in a laboratory management role overseeing complex laboratory operations required.
