JOB SUMMARY The Monitor Technician provides continuous remote observation of cardiac telemetry and pulse-oximetry for adult patients across transitional care and acute care inpatient units throughout the Health System. Working within a fast-paced, high-acuity centralized telemetry environment, the Monitor Technician plays an important role in patient safety through the early detection and timely reporting of cardiac arrhythmias, potentially life-threatening rhythms, and oxygen desaturations.
The Monitor Technician continuously observes patient monitoring systems, recognizes and identifies changes in cardiac rhythms and oxygen saturation, and promptly communicates significant findings to appropriate nursing staff. Responsibilities include obtaining, analyzing, and interpreting cardiac rhythm strips each shift and whenever significant rhythm changes occur. The Monitor Technician works collaboratively with telemetry nurses and nursing staff across multiple inpatient units and campuses to support effective communication, timely clinical response, and continuity of patient monitoring.
Using state-of-the-art telemetry technology, the Monitor Technician contributes to around-the-clock centralized monitoring for a large and diverse adult inpatient population while maintaining accuracy, attentiveness, professionalism, and teamwork in a highly dynamic environment. The total sum should add up to 100%.) REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Graduation from High School or equivalent. Completion of an EKG Interpretation course. Minimum 6 months of recent inpatient telemetry monitoring experience.
Proficiency in independent EKG interpretation. Excellent verbal and written skills. Must be well organized and detail oriented with the ability to work independently and under pressure.
Ability to work effectively within a team. Basic computer key board skills and general PC knowledge. PREFERRED: Experience in medical centralized telemetry setting. 1 year or above recent inpatient telemetry monitoring experience.
Knowledge and experience working with Philips, GE, and/or Masimo physiological monitors.
