The Ultrasound Technologist I performs diagnostic sonographic examinations while developing proficiency and preparing for the applicable registry examination. They provide safe, compassionate, and efficient care, produces accurate, high-quality images or study data, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support diagnosis and treatment. Key
Performs diagnostic sonography examinations and procedures in accordance with provider orders, established protocols, and applicable standards. Verifies patient identity, procedure, clinical history, and required preparation before beginning the examination. Explains procedures, answers questions within scope, and protects patient privacy, dignity, comfort, and safety.
Positions patients and selects technical factors, protocols, and equipment settings appropriate to the examination and patient condition. Selects appropriate transducers and imaging techniques, obtains required measurements, and documents preliminary technical findings for provider interpretation. Evaluates images or study data for technical quality and completeness and obtains additional views or information when appropriate.
Documents procedures accurately and completes image transfer, charging, and related electronic records in a timely manner. Operates equipment safely, performs required quality-control activities, and reports malfunctions or safety concerns promptly. Maintains infection-prevention practices and prepares rooms, equipment, medications, and supplies for patient care.
Communicates significant observations and changes in patient condition promptly to the radiologist, provider, nurse, or other appropriate team member. Collaborates with radiologists, providers, nurses, and other team members to coordinate efficient care and support positive patient outcomes. Performs additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.
Essential
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and imaging principles applicable to the assigned specialty. Ability to operate imaging equipment and related clinical information systems accurately and safely. Strong patient-care, communication, teamwork, organization, and critical-thinking skills.
Ability to adapt procedures to patient age, condition, mobility, and clinical needs.
Education &
Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology or Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. Licenses &
