Ultrasound Technologist-Per Diem Days

The Ultrasound Intern is competent to perform all diagnostic procedures for the diagnosis of specific diseases or conditions under direct and indirect supervision of an Ultrasound Technologist. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:Competent to perform all procedures within the Ultrasound Section of the Radiology DepartmentCompetent in technical operations of all equipmentAssess the patients, review orders/chart as appropriate to confirm reason of examEnsure pertinent patient symptoms and clinical history are documented and a signed consent form is present if neededPrepare patients for procedure, answer any questions and effectively communicate with the supervising radiologist for special instructions and/or questions regarding exam protocolResponsible for the prompt completion and accurate recording of exam begin and end time in the Radiology Information System (RIS) to ensure timely access to study by the radiologistProvide safe environment to include infection control guidelines, universal precautions and patient safety goalsMonitor timeliness of exams and quality of care based on established department goals, striving for continuous quality improvementPerform QA of exams (correct order, accurate/complete image annotation, correct laterality) prior to sending to radiologist for interpretationActively participate in department’s Performance Improvement ProjectsOther duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsThe following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:Education and Formal Training: High school diploma or equivalent requiredGraduate of an accredited Sonography certificate or diploma program requiredARRT (Sonography) or ARDMS Registry eligible requiredInterns must be registered by either ARDMS or ARRT (Sonography) within 12 months of internship requiredCurrent AHA BLS requiredWork

1 year experience preferredKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Technical skills and expertise in performing diagnostic and vascular sonographyPositive interpersonal skillsVerbal and written skillsCompassionate patient careKnowledge of growth and development and understands the range of treatment needed for all age groupsAbility to provide care based on the patient’s developmental needsEffective patient care and interacts effectively with patients of all agesPhysical
